Unlike any other auto show on the planet, the SEMA Auto Show isn’t so much about the glitz and glamor of concept cars and world debuts like other shows. SEMA is about seeing some of the latest tuning projects from the world’s best auto aftermarket companies be displayed in all their audacious glory. One such vehicle that fits that description to a tee is this custom Ford F-150 Raptor by Street Concepts. The modded pick-up is part of Toyo Tires’ four-vehicle contingent and since its headed to the event, you can be sure that it comes packed to the brim with some of the latest tuning parts available on the market. Among the many additions to the F-150 Raptor, the most obvious is the the custom Snow Camo vehicle wrap that was added in by Street Concepts. There are also new bumpers, a new lighting set-up, Brembo brakes, and a new suspension system courtesy of Icon Vehicle Dynamics. Inside the pick-up, the modifications include a carbon fiber-wrapped interior that’s accented with luxurious black Alcantara. There’s also a comprehensive audio system that was supplied by Kenwood to give some more oomph to what already looks like a beastin’ machine. Under the hood, the F-150 Raptor comes packed with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque.

The two brands had an interest in working with each other because it would be mutually beneficial: Aston Martin would have helped in developing Maybach models and they would, in turn, be able to take advantage of Mercedes’ latest technology. Now, German publications have reported that this agreement has collapsed and, as a result, Aston Martin’s future is in grave danger

Jason Laird, GM’s Executive Director for Product and Technology Communications, posted the following on his Twitter account: “Mark Reuss just confirmed ZL1 Camaro lapped Nurburgring in 7.41.27.” GM hasn’t confirmed the official time of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s lap, but so far it sounds as though it is completely legit.

It’s still not clear if the wagon version will be offered in the U.S., but in Europe it’s the most sold variant of the Mondeo. Despite the camouflage covering the wagon, you can easily notice that the next Mondeo will be borrowing design elements from the Evos Concept launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

The new ideas behind these products were brought to life at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with the Ford Evos Concept and in continuation of Smith’s laid out plan, we think this concept was just a preview of the future revival of the Capri name.

Ford Drive One Ad
Just two weeks ago, we told you about a Ford television commercial critical of GM and Chrysler for taking bailout money. The unscripted ad, filmed in a mock “press conference” format, featured an F-150 owner named Chris who supported Ford for “standing on their own; win, lose or draw.”
Now the ad has been pulled from the airwaves (and even from YouTube), and not because of public sentiment. Instead, some within the White House have reminded Ford that even Alan Mulally, Ford’s beloved CEO, supported the idea of government loans in the darkest days of 2008 and 2009. Ford may not have accepted loans (aside from a Fed-backed line of credit) but the automaker was behind the government issuing them.
The Detroit News says that Ford pulled the ad in response to White House criticism, and perhaps because of ire from cross-town rival General Motors. The success of the automaker bailout will figure heavily in Obama’s reelection campaign, so anything that portrays the bailout in a negative light will be frowned upon, heavily, by administration staffers.
An unnamed source familiar with the situation admits that the ad is “highly charged,” but insists it was never an attack on policy. The source also denies that Ford was under pressure to take down the ad, but there’s no denying that it raises questions those in power would rather not address, especially heading into a reelection year.
As for Ford, it may soon find itself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Both GM and Chrysler currently have better credit ratings than Ford, thanks to government-provided assistance. GM and Chrysler also have a clause prohibiting UAW hourly workers from striking prior to 2015, which was part of the package handed out by the Feds. Ford doesn’t have such protection, and it’s about to begin difficult contract negotiations with the UAW.
Whether the ad runs or not, Ford will continue to get business from buyers opposed to the bailout. That won’t help its negotiations with the UAW, but it will certainly help the automaker’s bottom line.

Mercedes-Benz has become the latest automaker targeting Generation Y thrill-seekers, following on the heels of Ford’s “Octane Academy” contest. Mercedes’ latest Facebook promotion targets the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe to a new generation of buyers, specifically those with a taste for adventure and the ability to produce a short promotional video.
By submitting a one- or two-minute video showcasing your “prowess for adventure” to Mercedes-Benz’s Facebook page, entrants can win the use of a 2012 C-Class Coupe for a one-week adventure. Winners also get a $2,000 cash prize, ensuring that you won’t run out of gas or be forced to sleep in highway rest areas during your week-long odyssey.
The contest is called the “C-Coupe Your Week” program, and it runs through October 14 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Ten winners will be chosen, and winners will have videos and images from their adventures posted to Mercedes-Benz’s Facebook page.
The 2012 C-Class is the least expensive product in Mercedes’ current lineup, with sedan prices starting from $35,675 and coupe prices beginning at $38,095. That may be a little on the steep side for most millennial buyers, but the contest will get a younger generation exposed to the Mercedes-Benz brand, just in time for upcoming product launches. With less expensive B-Class and A-Class products due to launch over the next year, expect to see more promotions targeted to Generation Y shoppers from Mercedes in the coming months.
